The registered provider shall only provide for the specific care and support needs, and services, within the facilities as set out the Statement of Purpose, as agreed with the Chief Inspector at the time of registration. Any changes to the specific care and support needs and services provided must be agreed in advance with the Chief Inspector. Condition 2: Only persons aged 18 years or older shall be accommodated at the designated centre at any time. What the latest inspection found

Castletownbere Community Hospital is a single-storey residential centre providing long stay, respite, community support, and palliative care for adults aged 18 to 65. Residents and visitors spoke highly of the staff, activities, and food. The centre has a variety of room types, mostly shared bedrooms, with en-suite facilities except for one room. While care and social activities are provided, some issues were found with management oversight, staff training, care documentation, fire safety, and residents' rights to choice and socialisation.

Residents and visitors praised the kindness and thoughtfulness of staff.
A variety of activities are offered including live music, arts, pet therapy, and religious services.
The centre is clean, well maintained, and has pleasant communal and outdoor spaces.
Residents have access to double wardrobes for personal storage.
There is good access to medical and allied health professionals with regular multidisciplinary reviews.

What needed to improve

Senior managers responsible for the centre were not named in the management structure as required.
Staffing shortages meant the activities staff post was often unfilled, limiting social engagement opportunities.
Care records had gaps and inconsistencies, including wound care and end-of-life plans.
