Eliza Lodge Nursing Home

Staffing

Staffing levels were not sufficient to meet the assessed needs of residents, especially those requiring one-to-one care. Staff assigned to provide continuous supervision were sometimes reassigned to other duties, causing delays in care. Night-time staffing was inadequate for safe evacuation. The provider has taken urgent action to increase staffing levels and improve oversight.

Activities

An activities board displayed a schedule including chair exercises, dancing, music, and walking, but activities did not consistently take place as planned. Some residents were unaware of the activity schedule. The activity staff member was also tasked with care duties, limiting activity provision. There was an over-reliance on television for activities.

Food

Residents were offered a choice at mealtimes, such as sweet and sour chicken or fish pie. The dining experience was relaxed and social. Residents spoke positively about the quality of food and staff assistance. Catering staff were aware of individual preferences and dietary needs.

Dementia

Has a dedicated dementia unit. The centre caters for residents with dementia care needs. Some residents with responsive behaviours did not consistently receive care in line with their assessed needs and care plans. Staff knowledge of managing behaviours that challenge was not always adequate, including de-escalation techniques and therapeutic interventions.
